For an archive like the Caribeean Broadcasting Corporation in Barbados, we are fully aware of the most of the issues here, but our challenge here is which to choose.
Should we listen to those who drive the technology, or be guided by the experiences of archives who have travelled this road? I would like to see some discussion on this at the next conference for the benefit of Archives in the Caribbean, which are forgotten in the big picture of the FIAT Conferences. |

The Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is the government-owned media corporation located in Barbados. The television service broadcasts on channel 8 and is the only legally-licensed, over-the-air television channel broadcasting in the country of Barbados. The corporation also owns three radio stations: two FM stations and one AM radio station. The company also operates a wireless Cable TV subscription.

Hi Rosemary,
When you mention the possibility of listen to those who drive the technology, are you refering to the issues of content selection or the cuestion of archive formats?
In my opinion the technicians have to be listen in what it concerns to the second point only. The issue of content selection is responsability of the archivists or, at least, in cooperation with the content production areas. Moreoever to the technicians correspond the task of translate into technically possible the decissions about long term preservation of the contents.
Best regards |
